Wiggans, a former resident of Harvey Station, New Brunswick, is a recent Art History graduate from Mount Allison University. As a student, Wiggans worked at the Owens Art Gallery as a technician and receptionist part-time. During her final year at university, Wiggans photographed the “Ladies Rugby Calendar” and exhibited photographs of the Tantramar Twirlers. Now as a graduate, she is excited to be a part of the Owens’ staff and learn more about the inner workings of a gallery. This is the tenth year of the internship program at the Owens. Currently it is the only one of its kind in the Maritimes. This unique ten-month position gives interns the opportunity to acquire new skills by working in a gallery setting. The intern experiences everything that happens behind the scenes from installing work, working with artists and students, to organizing events. The intern also acts as a liaison between the gallery and the public. This position also offers the intern the unique opportunity to curate a show; the intern prepares for this throughout the year by researching, contacting artists, installing the show, and writing the show’s accompanying catalogue. In mid-March this exhibition will be open to the public. —30— For further information please contact: Siobhan Wiggans, Owens Art Gallery, tel: 364-2574
