The gathering will be commemorated with the assembly of a tepee, to be permanently placed in the square. The ceremony will coincide with orientation activities for Laurentian's 400-plus First Nations students. The students will have an opportunity to participate in a pivotal turning point at Laurentian University and within the University's First Nations community. The ceremony will provide an opportunity for the community to show support in postsecondary institutional advancements for First Nations education. A number of guest speakers will be attending, including Nelson Toulouse, Deputy Grand Chief and Teresa Migwans, the Territory Chief. Along with Laurentian's First Nations leaders, they will welcome new and returning students to the campus. Elder Julie Ozwagosh will open the ceremony with a prayer and Laurentian University's Ramsey Lake Singers will perform an honour song. The gathering will be followed by a traditional feast.
