Jean-Claude Parrot, former National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Vice President of the Canadian Labour Congress, will speak at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 15, 2005 in room 175, Loyola Academic Building. Parrot was instrumental in the Canadian trade union movement until his retirement this year. He was National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers for 15 years and its Chief Negotiator for 18 years. When former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau decided to make the post office a Crown Corporation, Parrot was there to guide the transition. He was also there to oversee the merger of several postal unions into “one union for all.” Throughout his tenure, he provided leadership to what became Canada’s most militant and democratic union. His lecture is being sponsored by The Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s and Fernwood Publishing. Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world. Saint Mary's, founded in 1802, is home to one of Canada's leading business schools, a Science Faculty widely known for its cutting-edge research, a comprehensive and innovative Arts Faculty and a new Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. -30- For More Information: Paul Fitzgerald Public Affairs Officer Saint Mary's University, Public Affairs (902) 420.5514 E-mail: paul.fitzgerald@smu.ca www.smu.ca |
