The Minister has recently become aware of the ground-breaking work being conducted at the Institute and wanted to tour the facility. The new engineering, computer science and visual arts building is located at 1515 St. Catherine St. West, at the corner of Guy St. The two upper floors of the east section of the building, on Sainte-Catherine house the laboratories of Hexagram and, in the basement, a state-of-the art studio which is part of the institute. Establishing the new Hexagram Laboratory at Concordia was made possible through a $21 million grant from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), of which $14 million are dedicated to infrastructure costs. Hexagram’s artist-researchers can now continue their work, using advanced equipment in a new environment and sharing knowledge with researchers from Concordia, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Université de Montréal. In May, Hexagram inaugurated its first research installations at UQAM, on Sainte-Catherine St. East. The institute also has a laboratory in digital imaging and rapid prototyping at Université de Montréal. Hexagram is the largest Canadian university consortium devoted to research/creation in media arts. It brings together 68 creator/researchers from the university community, assisted by more than 300 graduate and undergraduate students, all striving to make Montréal a showcase for excellence in this field. Hexagram’s key institutional and public partners are Valorisation-Recherche Québec (VRQ), Canada Economic Development, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’innovation, et de l’exportation (MDEIE), the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC), the Ministère des Affaires municipales, du Sport et du Loisir du Québec, UQAM, Concordia University, the Centre inter-universitaire des arts médiatiques (CIAM) and the Institut national d’image et du son (INIS). Private partners include the Cirque du Soleil, la Société Radio-Canada, Clear Channel Entertainment, le Groupe Spectacles Gillett and the Daniel Langlois Foundation. - 30 - Source: André Bouthillier Hexagram (514) 732-4114 Source: Chris Mota, Senior Public Relations Officer Concordia University tel: (514) 848-2424 ext. 4884 cel: (514) 952 5556 fax: (514) 848-3383 e-mail: mota@alcor.concordia.ca
