Steven Davis, Director of Carleton’s Centre for Values and Ethics, will be hosting a public debate entitled "Would proportional representation be good for Canada?" on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Alumni Theatre in Southam Hall. Moderated by André Blais, Canada Research Chair in Electoral Studies, from the University of Montreal, the debate will feature both proponents of Canada’s current "first past the post" system and a proposed "proportional representation" model. The "first past the post" system will be defended by Richard S. Katz, Graduate Director in the Department of Political Science, at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The argument for "proportional representation" will be defended by Kenneth Carty, Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia.
