October 28, 2005 Source: University of New Brunswick - Saint John: http://www.unb.ca/news/view.cgi?id=883 UNBF to Host an Evening of Music and Einstein October 28, 2005 UNB Fredericton News Release: D473 Natalie Montgomery, Public Relations Officer (506) 451-6842 In celebration of the World Year of Physics 2005 and the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein’s miracle year, the department of physics at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton will host An Evening of Music and Einstein. The event will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the MacLaggan Hall Auditorium on the UNB Fredericton campus. UNB President John McLaughlin will deliver the opening remarks. This will be followed by a musical introduction by the Saint John String Quartet. Clifford Will, professor of physics and member of the McDonnell Center for Space Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., will deliver the evening’s keynote address. His lecture, entitled Was Einstein Right?, will relate the story of testing relativity, from the 1919 measurements of the bending of light to a 2004 space experiment to test whether space time ‘does the twist’. He will also show how astronomy and technology play an important role in daily life. An Evening of Music and Einstein is supported by the Canadian Association of Physicists, the Perimeter Institute, and the University of New Brunswick.
