Source: University of New Brunswick - Fredericton http://www.unb.ca/news/view.cgi?id=1137 AWARD-WINNING POET ANNE CAMPTON LAUNCHES NEW BOOKOctober 24, 2006 Governor General award-winning poet Anne Compton will launch her new book, Meetings with Maritime Poets: Interviews, on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 pm at the Grand Hall of the Scotiabank Building (40 Charlotte Street). The evening will be filled with poetry, discussion and celebration. Montreal poet and critic Carmine Starnino will interview Governor General’s award-winning poet and critic Anne Compton on stage, opening up a lively discussion about poetics, writing, and the interview process. In addition to being an award-winning poet, Anne Compton is also a critic, anthologist, professor, and Director of the Lorenzo Reading Series at UNB Saint John. Her books include: A.J.M.Smith: Canadian Metaphysical (1994); Opening the Island (winner of the 6th annual Atlantic Poetry Prize; nominee for the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award; 2003); The Edge of Home: Milton Acorn from the Island (editor, 2002); and Coastlines: The Poetry of Atlantic Canada (co-editor, 2002). She received a Governor General’s Literary Award in poetry for her second collection of poetry entitled, Processional (2005), which also won the 2006 Atlantic Poetry Prize. Anne Compton currently teaches literature and creative writing at UNB Saint John. The evening will be hosted by The Lorenzo Society and the UNB Saint John Bookstore, and supported by the Dean, Faculty of Arts. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
