The special event was held this morning in the McNally Theatre Auditorium. Dr. J. Colin Dodds, President of Saint Mary’s, was part of this unique event. "Canada is a wonderful country and I welcome all of you as our new citizens," he told the audience at this morning's ceremony. "Canada is a special place where every citizen is equal, and of course has access to many opportunities our country has to offer." There were 45 new citizens from 20 different countries at this ceremony, which was open to the public, as well as faculty, staff and students at the University. Tom Forrestall, OC and an alumnus of Saint Mary's, presided over the ceremony. Alexa McDonough, MP for Halifax, also took part in today's ceremony. Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world.
