Saint Mary’s Shines at Springboard Technology Showcase

Saint Mary’s University had the opportunity this week to highlight its emerging areas of research.

On October 19 and 20, Springboard hosted its Technology Showcase Event at the World Trade and Convention Centre in downtown Halifax.

Springboard, formally known as the Atlantic Commercialization Research Network, is an organization that cooperatively links for mutual expertise support and funding, the industry liaison and technology transfer offices of 14 Atlantic Canada universities and colleges.

A number of professors from the University who had a chance to share their research projects with those from industry included: Dr. Rob Singer, Chemistry Department; Dr. Mark Fleming, Psychology Department; and, Dr. Sageev Oore, Mathematics and Computing Science Department.

Dr. Kevin Vessey, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Department, as well as Gina Funicelli and Jennifer Pinks from the University’s Liaison Office, also worked diligently during the two-day event to show off the institution’s second-to-none research expertise, capacity, brilliant students, and researchers.

Everyone from Saint Mary’s who took part in the Springboard Technology Showcase Event also attended the NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) 2005 Synergy Awards for Innovation and the Innovation Challenge Awards Gala. This was the first time this awards gala was held in Atlantic Canada.

Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world. Saint Mary's, founded in 1802, is home to one of Canada's leading business schools, a Science Faculty widely known for its cutting-edge research, a comprehensive and innovative Arts Faculty and a vibrant Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
