These are just two of the hands-on chemistry activities for children and adults alike at the University of Calgary’s annual Mall Chemistry Show. The U of C’s Chemistry Department will hold its 14th annual Mall Chemistry Show Saturday, October 22nd as part of celebrations for National Chemistry Week. The event is free and suitable for visitors of all ages. More than 100 volunteers from the U of C, the Calgary sections of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the Association of Professional Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta will escape from their laboratories and promote science as part of our daily lives. They will present a number of educational and eye-catching displays, fascinating demonstrations, intriguing hands-on activities and interesting competitions. Featured presentations include: colourful chromatography, cold chemistry, the magical polymer called sparkling slime, blue printing as well as many other chemistry tricks you may try at home.
