How do we ensure the vast majority have basic literacy and numeracy skills? Professor Michael Fullan will discuss making large-scale reform of the Ontario education system a reality on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the U of T, 252 Bloor St. W. Fullan is the former dean of OISE/UT and currently works as special adviser to the provincial government on educational reform. He will talk about Ontario’s efforts to raise student achievement and reduce class sizes, the establishment of the new Secretariat on Literacy and Numeracy, turnaround teams in struggling schools, student achievement officers throughout the province and Ontario’s leadership role worldwide. Fullan will also offer insight on what might be expected from the much anticipated report on student achievement soon to be released from the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
