Girls in grades 7 to 10 and their parents will participate in hands-on activities such as developing a water purification system and creating and activating a pneumatic robotic arm to move objects. Attendees will meet women currently studying engineering and learn about some of the remarkable things female engineers are doing. Go ENG Girl was developed to address the issue of declining enrolment of women in post secondary engineering studies. Similar events are being held at engineering faculties across Ontario on Saturday. "The profession of engineering has changed over the years," says Cynthia Dunning, Mechanical Engineering professor and co-oganizer of Western's Go ENG Girl. "Engineering is really a caring profession. We develop artificial hearts for example and work with the environment - the opportunities are endless for women." Go ENG Girl is presented by The Ontario Network of Women in Engineering with the support of the Council of Ontario Deans of Engineering, the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE), ACTUA, Agilent Technologies Canada Inc., the Lassonde Family Foundation, Inco Limited, Falconbridge, Pratt & Whitney, MDA, Zenon, IBM and The Woodbridge Group.
