MacDonald is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University (B.Comm., magna cum laude, 1975) and also holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario (1977). After graduation, she served briefly as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Calgary before going on to a rich and varied career in the private and public sectors. For the last ten years, she has held senior positions with the Halifax Regional Municipality, including Director of Governance and Strategic Initiatives (2004-06), where she played a role in the development of the Regional Plan, the Economic Strategy, and the Integrated City Initiative. Since March of this year, she has served as Director of Business Planning and Information Management for HRM. MacDonald has a lifetime commitment to the crucial role of education in personal, social and economic development.
