El Cerrejón, the world’s largest open-pit coal mine, is adding to that statistic. Cape Breton University Political Science students Suzanne MacNeil and Karen Murphy recently returned from participating in a delegation investigating human rights and mining issues in Colombia. They will discuss the plight of communities displaced by both the country’s conflict and by the activities of multinational corporations, and the Nova Scotia connection to these issues.
