Carleton University Announces Appointment of Acting Provost and Vice-President (Academic)November 21, 2006 Source: Carleton University http://www.carleton.ca/duc/newsroom/newsreleases/Nov_22.html President and Vice-Chancellor pro tempore, Samy Mahmoud, is pleased to announce the appointment of Feridun Hamdullahpur as Acting Provost and Vice-President (Academic). The appointment was approved by the Board of Governors and takes effect immediately. Since July 2000, Dr. Hamdullahpur has distinguished himself as Carleton’s Vice-President (Research and International). Under Dr. Hamdullahpur’s leadership, Carleton University has strengthened its established reputation for groundbreaking research both at home and on the international stage. Ranked among the top four comprehensive universities in the country, Carleton has seen its research funding more than double over the past six years from $28 million in 1999/2000 to more than $74 million in 2005/2006. Dr. Hamdullahpur is also a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton, and is involved with several committees and boards including the Ontario Council on University Research (OCUR), the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO), and TRIUMF (Canada’s national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics). Dr. Hamdullahpur will continue in his role as Vice-President (Research and International) pending the announcement of an interim appointment.
