November 18, 2005 Source: Ryerson University: http://www.ryerson.ca/news/2005/20051118.html Ryerson University To Officially Open New Computer And Engineering Centre Ryerson University will officially open the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre at a ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 24, 5 p.m., 245 Church St., 3rd floor. Located in the heart of the University's campus, the Centre houses the departments of aerospace engineering, computer science and electrical and computer engineering in one state-of-the-art science, technology and research facility for students, staff and faculty. It features high-tech laboratories, specialized research facilities, lecture theatres and classrooms that serve over 4,000 engineering students. The 225,000-square-foot building spans almost an entire city block with soaring glass windows covering its exterior. It was designed by Toronto-based Moriyama & Teshima Architects. The event will feature the unveiling of plaques recognizing major donors to the building including philanthropists George and Helen Vari. Engineering students will present a Ryerson Chair to the Varis in recognition of their gift to the University. CTV news anchor Ken Shaw will host the evening presentation.
