CU’s Department of Geography & Environmental Studies and the Library's Maps, Data and Government Information Centre invite you to this international celebration of geomatics. Many of the organizations attending will be represented by Carleton Alumni. When: Wednesday, November 16, 2005 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Where: 2nd Floor Loeb Building Carleton University Background: Geographic Information System (GIS) technology allows us to find A-Z through Mapquest and Google Maps; assists archaeologists in exploring unexcavated ancient ruins; guides aid workers in disaster relief missions; helps city planners identify urban trends; and can help epidemiologists predict outbreaks by identifying fertile breeding grounds for disease. The one-day showcase will provide interactive demonstrations of the GIS technology that affects where we live, work and play.
