StFX alumnus Seamus O'Regan, co-host of CTV's Canada AM, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony. December 3 is known as "StFX Day" and marks the feast day of St. Francis Xavier, the University's patron saint. Again this year, thousands of StFX alumni will gather across Canada and around the world, including Bermuda, Boston, Massachusetts, Burbank, California and London, United Kingdom, to celebrate StFX Day. StFX Day is the day senior students earn the right to wear the X-Ring. Receiving the X-Ring is a moment students have dreamed about and for many, counting down the days, hours and minutes to StFX Day has become a tradition. Posters indicating how many days left before StFX Day are hung in dorm rooms and apartment windows throughout Antigonish. "The X-Ring captures the essence of what StFX stands for; academic excellence, honour and service to society," says StFX President Dr. Sean Riley. "This ring is worn with pride by graduates from all walks of life." Meaghan McKenna, a graduating student, says, "For me, receiving my X-Ring is almost as important as graduation. The ring not only symbolizes a great educational experience, but long-lasting friendship and the power to be the masters of our own destiny." Due to space limitations, seating in the University Chapel is reserved for graduating students and faculty. Parents and friends will watch a simulcast of the event at the Charles V. Keating Millennium Centre. A reception follows in the Oland Centre. About StFX Located in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, StFX is a national university focused on undergraduate students.
