The University of Alberta's Master of Business Administration in Public Management is a part-time program primarily designed for individuals who aspire to attain managerial positions in the public or not-for-profit sectors. The Program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to hone their abilities 'to think strategically and to develop the analytical skills, problem-solving strategies, and consensus-building techniques critical for success in the public sector.' Students will be exposed to a wide array of business concepts, theories, and skills while allowing them to major in public sector management via specialized courses which will advance student's capabilities to 'analyze key issues in policy development, implementation and management' and 'to think creatively and make decisions in the complex and ambiguous environment of public sector.' To complete the Program students must partake in a major project course in which students, under the supervision of faculty, will apply theory to practice by working 'with a public or non-profit sector organization to understand, analyze and influence the resolution of a current problem in public policy development, implementation or management.' Although the Program is about Public Management, graduates will have developed the skill necessary to be in a position to find managerial-level employment in both the public and private sector.
