The University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business offers an individualized PhD program whose primary purpose is to create future educators and researches who can create, advance, and impart knowledge in one or more of the areas in which the School specializes, namely Accounting Entrepreneurship and Family Business Management, Environmental Management/Sustainable Development, Finance, Human Resources and Organizational Dynamics, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Operations Management, Risk Management and Insurance, Strategy and General Management, and Tourism Management. For each student, his or her field of interest will determine the exact structure of the Program. However, every student will major in one of the aforementioned areas in which the School specializes along with minoring in an area which 'may be declared within the business school or across the university.' The Program may be completed in 6 years, with a minimum 'full-time residency requirement of two years;' however, candidates must complete course work, the dissertation proposal, and candidacy examinations 'within 28 months of admission to the program.' Moreover, subject to approval of the Program's supervisor and director, students 'may take additional major courses from outside the major they have selected.'
