Overview The Department of Civil Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University invites applications from qualified individuals for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the areas of Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering and Environmental/Water Resources Engineering to begin July 1, 2014. Candidates with significant academic and/or industrial experience may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. For a position in the area of Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering, we are looking for candidates whose teaching and research interests align with one or more of the following areas: mechanics and management of municipal solid waste; climate-change-driven geotechnical design; novel foundation systems; transportation geotechnics; geotechnical modelling; mechanics of unsaturated soils; contaminated ground remediation; mine waste containment systems. For a position in the area of Environmental/Water Resources Engineering, we are looking for candidates whose teaching and research interests align with one or more of the following areas: water treatment and distribution systems; wastewater treatment; municipal infrastructure rehabilitation; management and remediation of groundwater; air pollution control.

Experience and Qualifications Successful candidates must have earned a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely-related field and be eligible for appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The ideal candidate(s) will have post-doctoral and/or industrial experience and a demonstrated track record of excellence (or a clear promise of excellence) in teaching, research and professional practice and will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program and supervise graduate students. The successful candidate(s) will have the ability to participate in partnerships with industry and/or other public institutions and demonstrated expertise and leadership in teaching and curricular innovation at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate(s) shall also demonstrate commitment to the engineering profession by being licenced as a Professional Engineer, or by becoming licenced soon after appointment. A successful candidate with outstanding qualifications, experience and eminence will also be considered for appointment as the Kaneff Chair, which has been established using an endowment to Lassonde School of Engineering by Mr. Ignat Kaneff. The candidate appointed to the Kaneff Chair will be expected to establish sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships with the engineering industry in terms of research, teaching and professional practice.
