Overview

Sereca Fire Consulting Ltd is dedicated to providing thorough and analytical investigative engineering analyses following fires and other failure incidents. Our investigative team is experienced in analyzing various types of fire events and our technical staff continuously conducts research, live burn exercises and computer modelling simulations to expand upon our knowledge and experience. We are committed to advancing fire science and the use and application of fire engineering principles towards forensic analysis.
We are currently looking for a Forensic Fire Engineer to join our Calgary, AB office.


Responsibilities

Working with a team of Engineers and Technologists, the successful applicant will be responsible for conducting field investigations of fire sites, and coordinating the follow-up analysis, testing, and reporting of results. In addition to our company resources, the Fire Engineer will work with industry experts, trades people, and municipal authorities to examine and document the fire scene, retain evidence, and prepare court approved documentation that may be used in civil litigation. This position requires good physical fitness, involves frequent travel on short notice, and field work is frequently conducted in disagreeable work environments (i.e., burned buildings). In addition to field work, the successful applicant will conduct leading industry research, participate in live fire exercises, and provide industry related training and presentations. Responsibility and growth opportunities for this position will be dependent upon experience and qualifications.


Experience and Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications;

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Eligibility for EIT, RPT, or P.Eng status with APEGGA.
  • Experience in conducting field reviews, fire / safety investigations, risk assessments, computer modelling, fire testing;
  • Experience in fire protection engineering, fire fighting, or related field;
  • Good working knowledge of National, Provincial and local Building Codes;
  • Ability to effectively work well independently and to communicate with associated trades and industry authorities.
  • Strong ability in English verbal and written communication.
