Overview Under the direction of a professionally trained Archivist, the Public Programs assistant will work in a team-oriented environment assisting with the general administration and development of programs to promote the roles and services of the archives to people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. The successful candidate will assist with the administration of a district-wide School Archives Program; Paths & Pathfinders: Women of Mission Program; the 2012 Heritage Week Exhibit, the Archives 4th Annual Open House; the Archives website and/or the preparation of promotional material.

Responsibilities Assist with the general administration and development of a district-wide School Archives Program (September - June) designed specifically to teach and assist primary and secondary students, staff and parents how to collect and preserve their school history. Help with the administration of the Paths and Pathfinders: Women of Mission Program developed primarily to collect, preserve and make accessible materials which document the lives and contributions of women. Market the archives at local special events to promote amongst children, adults and seniors, awareness, appreciation and understanding of the archives role in the community. Research and plan annual Heritage Week exhibit. The event will be held as part of BC Heritage Week celebrations in 2013. Develop the archives website and Flickr, including: digitization of historical materials to put online and a webpage to teach students about local history and to inform teachers about the availability of primary resources in the archives.

Experience and Qualifications Must be a student between the ages of 16 and 30 who is returning to school in the fall. Be between 15 to 30 years of age at the start of employment Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
