Overview If you're a geoscientist looking for a new challenge, consider this role where you will work with a team of geoscientists and other professionals to assist in planning, coordinating, administering and delivering ministry and government policies, practices and procedures concerning minerals-related aspects of land use planning for all of northeastern Ontario.

Responsibilities You will also:
represent the ministry's interests in land use planning for Crown and private lands by participating on committees and at public information sessions monitor and comment on land use policy development and implementation and liaise with non-governmental agencies on land use and minerals related activities provide training and prepare various written materials.
Timmins, the 'City with a Heart of Gold' is centrally located in northeastern Ontario and is the regional centre for shopping, culture, commerce, and industrial services and distribution. Timmins is also the region's centre for health care with a modern hospital serving the Cochrane District, and specialists from almost every field. In addition to the elementary and secondary school system, there is post-secondary education available at Northern College, College Boreal and Universite de Hearst Timmins.

Experience and Qualifications Mandatory:
currently certified or eligible for certification as a Professional Geoscientist in the province of Ontario valid driver's licence to conduct field work and ability to travel and work irregular hours
Specialized knowledge: demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience related to geoscience and mineral exploration principles and practices
Communication, interpersonal and people skills: demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal, consultation, negotiation, and presentation skills
Other important skills: proven reasoning and analytical skills to help develop and implement new regulations, policies, practices, and procedures proven research and evaluation skills to research and assess provincial legislation, regulations and policies pertaining to private and Crown lands demonstrated ability to identify critical factors in work-related situations and make informed recommendations based on research and analysis ability to operate word- processing, database, spreadsheet and digital presentation computer applications, and to understand the value and usage of GIS based data management systems Posting Date: Friday, October 7, 2011 Closing Date: Monday, October 31, 2011 11:59 pm EDT
