Overview This summer we are recruiting volunteers aged 14-24 to promote Canadian Blood Services in Edmonton during June, July, and August 2012 at special events. Summer Youth Program Volunteers will promote Canadian Blood Services at events such as Capital Ex, Canada Day and other community events, info booths, and festivals. Our volunteers help to raise awareness and inform the public about the importance of blood donation and the facilities available here in Edmonton. This is a great opportunity for youth who want to gain valuable volunteer experience in an important part of the Canadian health care industry. ISummer Youth Program Volunteers will gain valuable leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. In addition to helping the community, the youth program is a great way to meet an enthusiastic and friendly group of people, and each person who participates in the program will have the opportunity to apply to the prestigious year round youth committee program. Youth in grades 11 -12 and up who are planning on attending post secondary school in the fall also have the opportunity to participate in our Assignment Saving Lives student bursary program and compete for bursaries in the amounts of $1000, and $1500, each based on recruiter performance individually outside of the summer program events: One bursary will be awarded to the qualifying recruiter with most units and one to the qualifying recruiter with most new blood donors who successfully donated during the period (note: one recruiter cannot win both the most units and most new donors bursaries) All remaining recruiters who meet the criteria of 20 donations, 5 of which have to be from new donors, will be eligible to win an educational bursary. For more information or to apply please contact Cerynn Desjarlais, at cerynn.desjarlais@blood.ca, or call 780-702-8807. One litre of blood can save the lives of three people, this is such an important cause and a great volunteer opportunity to help others.
