Overview Director, Libraries Branch Victoria BC Salary up to $90,994.00 annually The Director, Libraries oversees the development of a variety of provincial policies, programs and services to promote the improvement and extension of equitable public library service throughout British Columbia. The Director provides provincial leadership, engages and develops relationships and partnerships with the public, post-secondary, school and special library community to further the vision of a seamless library service for all learners and citizens. Through these relationships, the director uses influence to ensure public libraries align with government priorities, develops cross-sector support for education and library transformation, and engagement with communities, partners and local government. With Ministry executive, the director also effectively leads strategic planning and vision development for the field, and develops an effective accountability framework for public libraries that demonstrates effective use of the funds available. Key Library activities include administering grants, encouraging shared services, and providing expert advice. The successful applicant must be willing to travel in and out of province, as required. This position is excluded from union membership.

Experience and Qualifications In order to be considered for this position, your resume must clearly show that you have the following education and experience: Masters of Library and Information Science (or equivalent), preferably from an American Library Association accredited university. Five (5) years of progressive leadership experience at the management level in a library. Preference may be given to applicants who have this experience in a public library. Applicant must be able to demonstrate successful experience with managing strategic large-scale initiatives, and providing leadership in a multi-stakeholder political environment.
