Overview Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) is Alberta’s oldest conservation organization seeking the protection of internationally/nationally significant Alberta landscapes. Since the early 1960’s the AWA has sought a network of representative landscapes to protect the biodiversity of our environment and ensure the health and wealth of our province. AWA is seeking a dynamic, energetic, bright candidate with excellent communications skills to fill a Conservation Specialist position and join the dynamic and dedicated AWA staff team. The ultimate goal of the conservation specialist's work is to provide the public with comprehensive information (the facts, the history, the players, the issues) that the public can use to formulate opinions and take action.

Responsibilities AWA Conservation Specialists are directly responsible to the Executive Director. As a member of the AWA team, Conservation Specialists are responsible for: Developing and implementing AWA conservation programs and campaigns Liaising with conservation organizations and local communities to achieve conservation awareness and protection and promote open and meaningful public and stakeholder participation in conservation stewardship Personal communication – networking with individuals, open houses, presentations, meetings; maintaining and developing related website pages; writing articles for the Wild Lands Advocate, meeting and informing the press.

Experience and Qualifications Qualifications Graduate of an accredited post-secondary institution with a related science degree Excellent written and oral communication skills Experienced in community outreach and education Demonstrated ability in program development Proficient in teamwork Broad knowledge and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet use, Internet and Social networking and communication tools Ability to travel and work flexible hours
