Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure effective laboratory operations, including the following: client service, security, housekeeping, human resources, safety, quality and environmental practices. This is accomplished by: a) ensuring that staff is aware of their responsibilities, b) providing proper training and resources to staff, c) monitoring the JIPs and investigating any that are overdue from targeted turnaround, d) planning resource requirements (i.e. instruments and manpower) based on anticipated growth, e) approving purchase requisitions, f) evaluating operational systems in the laboratory. Demonstrate good leadership, which includes, but is not limited to, the following attributes: effective planning and organizational skills, the ability to delegate and empower subordinates appropriately, and leading by example. Ensure the profitability of the laboratory. This is accomplished by: a) ensuring effective and efficient sales and marketing of services, b) preparing capital and operating budgets for the division, c) evaluating the performance of the division against the operating budget and taking corrective action, when required. Review non-routine work orders before assigning to laboratory to ensure laboratory capability and profitability. Approve/disapprove staff timesheets, vacations, absences and purchase requisitions in accordance with AGAT Laboratories' policies and procedures. Review/evaluate or resolve/rectify: a) prospective candidates for hire, b) professionalism and attire of staff and laboratory personnel, c) the environmental condition of the laboratory facility and building, d) laboratory staff performance and salary. Ensure that laboratory procedures are: a) documented in the form of AGAT SOPs, b) properly taught to the laboratory staff, c) being adhered to by staff and laboratory personnel, d) enforced by means of AGAT's reprimand procedure. Participate in business building/marketing activities, independently and in conjunction with the sales department. Activities include maintaining sales through calling on clients, lunching, entertaining clients, etc. Communicate general laboratory and client issues to the laboratory through meetings or formal communications with appropriate staff/laboratory personnel. Communicate immediately any issue or event that impacts laboratory operations or client relations (i.e., staff member absences, instrument problems, insufficient lab supplies, upset clients, etc.) to the management team. Raise nonconformance investigation requests to the Quality Assurance Officer for any nonconforming event, as deemed necessary. Oversee and ensure that client calls and requests are handled in a diligent manner. This includes the redirection of calls and requests to other departments. Complete follow-up communications on client calls and requests in a timely and professional manner. Review and respond to all Customer Review Forms in a timely manner. Prepare bids/proposals based on client requests, as required. Assist corporate management, as required.

Experience and Qualifications Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field 5+ years hands on experience analyzing soil and water for organic and inorganic parameters Thorough knowledge of EPA and Standard Methods Experience in method validation, creation and revision of laboratory SOPs Experience in the use, calibration and troubleshooting of various instruments including ICP/MS, ICP/OES, GC/MS, GC/MS P&T, GC/ECD, GC/FID Extensive knowledge of QA/QC procedures, ISO 17025 standards, CAEAL / SCC accreditation and proficiency testing required. Experience managing laboratory accreditation will be considered a strong asset
