PROGRAM WEBSITE Woodworking Technology - Architectural Millwork (Co-op) - Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology The Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology's Woodworking Technology - Architectural Millwork (Co-op) is a unique 3-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma Program designed for individuals interested in designing, manufacturing, and installing architectural millwork. The Program will be taught at the Woodworking Centre of Ontario, Doon Campus and be comprised of both theoretical and practical education. During the first year, students will be develop practical abilities in creating, machining, completing. and installing architectural products like cabinets, doors, windows, and ornaments. The Program's second year will continue developing students' practical skills but will introduce learners to 'production management and industrial engineering concepts consistent with current technology' including computer and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining skills. The final year of the Program will continue and build upon the knowledge and skill taught in the previous 2 years and will provide students with the opportunity 'to understand and apply the principles of work measurement, methods analysis, plant layout and support systems, material handling, quality control, and cost estimating.' The Program will include co-operative education that 'features six academic terms in college and three work terms in the woodworking industry;' the latter may required students 'to relocate or commute.' Students should be aware that in order to progress to the second semester of the Program, a minimum academic average of 75 percent must be attained in Level One. Employment-wise, graduates typically seek various positions in architectural millwork like computer draftsperson, cost estimator, manager, process planner, supervisor, or methods and/or time study analyst. Graduates may also pursue jobs in related industries or trades like carpentry, cabinetmaking (joinery), planermill, refinishing, wood products and manufacturing, and woodworking. To be eligible for the Program, applicants have successfully completed Grade 11 Physics or Science or Conestoga College Preparatory Physics. Applicants may be required to write an English and/or Mathematics examination. The College recommends that applicants acquire basic computer literacy and familiarity with technical drafting and laboratories or shops as this may help students' chances for success in the Program. Applicants are encouraged 'to attend an information session to confirm program choice.' The College's admission procedure determines one's academic strength by calculating 'all submitted senior level secondary school marks or test results (or equivalent) of the required subjects' with an additional 20 marks 'to each advanced level, OAC, U, U/C, or post-secondary course used in the calculation of the academic strength.' Applicants possessing 'significant life and work experience' may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (P.L.A.R.) credits; for details. such individuals are advised to contact the Information Centre at 519-748-5220 ext. 3656.
