PROGRAM WEBSITE Computer Security and Investigations - Sir Sandford Fleming College Sir Sandford Fleming College's 3-year Advanced Diploma in Computer Security and Investigations provides students 'with the necessary knowledge and skills to take a leadership role in the protection and security of information technology.' The latter deals primarily with managing or controlling the risks related to electronically, principally computer, created, processed, disseminated, and/or stored data, information, intelligence, and knowledge. Through a combination of theoretical and practical education, students will learn 'from a security management and law enforcement perspective' including 'the technological and management skills required to implement information technology security, and the investigative skills necessary to respond appropriately to breaches of security.' Students will develop skills in creating 'systems, procedures, and human resources to manage the risks associated with information technology' as well as the abilities to provide 'technical assistance to prevent, investigate, and protect individuals and organizations from cyber-crime.' The Program includes numerous courses in criminology, justice, law, management, and technology and computers as well as technical training in technological consulting. Further, students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom by participating in an applied 'project in partnership with business, industry, a law enforcement agency, or government department.' The Project will give students the chance to 'enhance problem-solving sills, applied industry knowledge, and the ability to work as part of a team' and 'learn critical workplace skills such as time management, how to map a critical path, and presentation skills.' The Project is often used by sponsors 'as a testing ground and recruitment opportunity.' Individuals trained in information security are in high demand around the world and thus graduates are usually presented with various career opportunities 'in both public and private sector organizations.' Graduates often pursue positions whose starting wages are $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 and 'higher dependent on location and acquired skill set.' For example, graduates may be hired as Computer Forensics Examiners, Computer Security Consultants, Digital Investigative Specialists, Information Security Administrators, Information Technology Security Analysts, Investigators, and Network Security Specialist, among others. Graduates may also pursue further studies in Computer Security and Investigations or related fields at various colleges, universities, and institutions around the world.
