Security Training BST Level 2 - Grace Community College The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC), on behalf of Registrar of the Security Programs Division of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, 'which 'regulates the security industry in' BC, is responsible 'for the development and maintenance of training standards, and the administration of Security Training,' including 'the administration of monitored examinations for security courses, the inspection and quality control of schools and approved security instructors ' In British Columbia, in accordance with the Private Investigators and Security Agencies Act and Regulations, requires that 'contract security companies and employees be licensed prior to taking part in security duties.' These 'requirements apply to alarm monitor and service personnel, armored car companies, locksmiths, private investigators, security consultants, and security patrol (guard) personnel, and include background clearance requirements.' Furthermore, 'applications for licensing may only be submitted by an employer on behalf of a prospective employee.' Security guard/patrol employees, in accordance with Security Training Regulation, must 'complete mandatory training prior to eligibility for Provincial licensing;' such training is comprised of 2 courses including Basic Standards Training 1 (BST1) and Basic Standards Training 2 (BST2). These Courses 'must be successfully completed through an approved training school, and evidence of completion must be attached to a license application.' Individuals possessing, within the past 3 years, 'peace office experience' may be eligible for exemption for BST1 and BST2 training; individuals who want to be considered for training exemption must complete and submit 'an Application for Training Exemption,' available at the JIBC website.
