PROGRAM WEBSITE Fire Investigation and Prevention - Lethbridge Community College Lethbridge Community College's Credential of Academic Achievement in Fire Investigation and Prevention program enables firefighters to obtain greater 'knowledge specifically honed to' their duties as fire investigators and/or prevention officers. As such, the Program does not involve courses in Firefighting but rather on the criminal and legal aspects of fires and fire investigation and prevention, and students 'will be enrolled in established classes with students from other justice disciplines.' Courses for the Program have been 'chosen in consultation with the Lethbridge Fire Department and geared to complement the duties firefighters handle in their work.' To complete the Program, the student must 'study in five core courses,' including Criminal Investigation, Criminal Law, Criminalistics, Interviewing, Notebooks, Reports and Statistics, and select two electives closely related to' his/her 'professional duties.' Electives will be selected from Criminology, Crisis Intervention, Evidence and Court Procedure, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Procedural Law, and Youth and Young Offenders. To be eligible for admission to the Program, the applicant must be a 'First Class Firefighters or a person approved by his/her fire department.' Graduates of the Program can pursue professional (paid) or volunteer work in various aspects of fire investigation and prevention for fire departments in Lethbridge and throughout southern Alberta, and in other jurisdictions in Canada where the Credential is accepted.
