PROGRAM WEBSITE Certificate in Criminal Justice - Aurora College - Aurora Campus Aurora College's 1-year Certificate in Criminal Justice provides students with the foundations for further studies in Criminology and Criminal Justice as well as for 'entry-level employment in justice related fields.' By drawing from the fields of Criminology, English, Psychology, Sociology, and Women's Studies, the Program offers students with the 'basic knowledge of the theories relevant to a diversity of Criminal Justice roles' as well as 'opportunities for personal development needed to prepare for successful employment in the Criminal Justice fields.' Students will also be given the opportunity to apply what they have learned in class to a real-world work environment via a planned and supervised field placement at 'an approved work setting.' Students will be required to demonstrate that they possess 'social behaviour' and conduct that meet ' the ethical standards of the profession.' Graduates may pursue entry-level positions and/or educational opportunities in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related fields. Career-wise, graduates may be employed in various positions across Canada, including working for educational or governmental institutions or for employers in the non-profit or private sector. For example, graduates may work in the areas of crime prevention, criminal investigation, criminal law, insurance, law and law enforcement, national security, offender case management, policing, Revenue Canada, the courts, victim services, and young offenders, to name but a few. Graduates can also take on further studies in the field at various institutions across Canada, including colleges, universities, and institutions specializing in the field, like the Justice Institute of British Columbia. To be eligible for admission to the Program, applicants will usually be required to possess a Grade 12 education with competency in English and Social Studies. The latter may be demonstrated by successful completion of English 33 and Social Studies 33 with a minimum grade of 65 percent or Aurora College English 150 and Social Studies 150. Mature students that do not meet 'the required academic background may demonstrate equivalent ability' through 'standardized Aurora College examinations.'
