Bow Valley College Established: 1965 (Originally known as the Alberta Vocational Centre - Calgary; in 1990, the Centre was renamed the Alberta Vocational College - Calgary (AVC). In 1998, after being incorporated into Alberta’s "Colleges Act," AVC was renamed Bow Valley College). Number of Students Over 10,000 annually Programs Offered at Bow Valley College are over 50 career training certificate and diploma programs of 1- and 2-year duration, respectively, in the areas of Accounting, Administration, Business, Computers, Health Care, and Working with People. More than 23 "academic upgrading" courses and programs designed for adult learners returning to school to complete their high school education, to better their employability skills, and/or to improve their English language skills, are also available. The College affords students and recent graduates the opportunity to study abroad in 1 of numerous countries throughout the world, including Japan and Mexico, through programs offered in partnership with the Human Resources and Development Canada Youth International Program or the Canadian International Agency's Youth Internship Program. Additionally, through its Continuing Education offerings, the College provides more ways for students to receive an education through general and professional interest courses and programs delivered via various flexible learning means, including instruction in over 25 locations in southern Alberta and/or online. The College also offers customized services for businesses, which includes personalized training and work experience programs. Furthermore, the College participates, in association with various international organizations, in international development projects through which education and training is brought to individuals in developing countries. Interesting Facts Bow Valley College is a post-secondary institution specializing in career and vocational training, and it is the largest provider of ESL programs in Calgary. Graduates of the College have historically had a high degree of career success with about 95% of students being employed in their respective fields after 6 months of graduation. |
