Profile of Career College/Trade School
The Maindance Academy teaches modern dance to students who wish to have this immensely satisfying art form as a career. The Maindance Academy was started in 1984 in the Arcadian Hall in Vancouver but had to move to Hastings Street after an arson fire. The Maindance Academy provides not only training to students, but also help in finding opportunities to highlight their dance skills. The Maindance Academy is partially funded by the City of Vancouver, British Columbia Art Council, Human Resources Development Canada and Gulf and Frasier Group. Enrolment for courses is done through a dance audition process that is held three times every year. The Maindance Academy understands that the field of dance is a dynamic one, with new trends developing almost every day. A dancer needs to keep pace with those changes to find professional success. A dancer also needs to be flexible and versatile and keep pace with changes. He or she needs to know how to promote his or her skills. The Bridging Program of this career college in Canada is an accredited three-year course that helps dancers learn not just the techniques of dance, but also promotion, public speaking, teaching, and choreography.
