The Western Canadian Institute of traditional Chinese medicine is located in the city of Richmond in British Columbia, Canada. The institute was established in 1997 and is popular with both national and international students who wish to pursue a career as a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. WCI is a post-secondary educational institution that is registered and accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency. Western Canadian Institute of T.C.M. Practitioners offer a four-year course that leads to a diploma in Comprehensive Traditional Chinese Medicine. The languages of instruction are English and Chinese. The course teaches holistic medicine that includes therapies like acupuncture, herbology, acupressure, and food cure. The school also has classes on anatomy, pathology, microbiology, laboratory tests and general practice of the western medicine system. The Institute has facilities that consist of three classrooms, a library, restrooms with wheelchair access, and free parking space. The college has a Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Centre that contains a large patient waiting room, three private patient care rooms, a doctor's assessment office, and an herb preparation room. The instructors are trained Chinese medical practitioners with at least 10 years of experience in the field. Students who complete 1920 hours of the course can apply for a license as an acupuncturist or herbalist. Students who complete the four-year diploma can transfer to a university in China to get their Dr. TCM title.
