The Western Academy of Photography, Victoria, in British Columbia is registered and accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency. The institution has a black & white darkroom, complete with enlargers and print processors, a black & white film processing room, two studios equipped with lighting, stands, backdrops, medium and large format camera gear, a lounge, two light tables, a Macintosh computer lab (with Photoshop and QuarkXpress programs), film and flatbed scanners, as well as an Epson printer. The Western Academy of Photography offers programs such as the Professional Photography program with a duration of 10 months which provides technical training to create unique and exquisite images in the various fields of photography. The programs offer students training in The Fundamentals of Photography, Composition & Design, Black & White Darkroom, Color Theory, Computer Imaging, Advanced Lighting, Business, Portraiture, Fashion, Weddings, Outdoor & Travel, Photojournalism, Stock, Advertising, Lifestyle and Architecture. The Written Image Program is a digital 10 month program in photojournalism/journalism and students are trained in three components- Writing, Photography, Business. The Advanced Visual Communications program is designed to help increase the student’s employability and students are taught about digital darkroom, creative problem solving techniques, exposure to expression, contemporary media analysis, business and financial management and are also taught the basics of building their own brand in the form of design, print and web development. This training helps them get prepared for work and career advancements.
