The RSM Safety Institute is a part of RSM Mining Services. It was established in 2003 and is located at campuses in Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. RSM Safety Institute offers training to staff employed by companies engaged in the mining and construction industry. In 2004, the institute was formally recognized as a mining school by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Students at RSM Safety Institute are given both theoretical and practical training on mine safety in the RSM pit. They are taught the safe way of using heavy equipment common to the mining and construction industry. These services are available and can be transferred to other mine sites worldwide. The course teaches students drilling and blasting, mining, road construction, preparing new railroad lines, ore haulage, site preparation, ice bridges, crushing and delivering of materials like sand or calcium, and clearing snow. Students who graduate with a diploma or certificate from RSM Safety Institute can get entry-level jobs in the mining or construction industry. Most are absorbed by the parent company, R.S.M. Mining Services, Inc., which has been in the business for 50 years. Others are employed in top mining companies of Quebec or Labrador like Iron Ore Company of Canada, Wabush Mines, Scully Mines and Quebec Cartier Mining.
