The Maritime School of Paramedicine is focused on developing paramedics through programs designed to make them master the professional skills and attitude of this noble profession. Students learn the theory, skills and practice related to it, understanding the commitment that goes into being a dedicated paramedic. This makes graduates of this school a valuable component of the society. The Maritime School has three programs: Primary Care Paramedic, an entry-level program where they teach the students to assess patients and treat them; The Advanced Care Paramedic, which is approved by Emergency Health Services of Nova Scotia, is a full time program that can be taken through both distance education and regular classes, and other Professional Development Programs, which are the Provincial Reciprocity Attainment Program, Provincial Re-registration Refresher Program, Provincial Conduct and Competency Remedial Education program. The Maritime School is also offering the Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support program from the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, which concentrates on the care and transport of multi system trauma patients. This program PHTLS can be taken in the continuing education program format and is available to First Responders, Paramedics, Physicians, Nurses, and other licensed health care professionals.
