Life Skills College, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is licensed by the Private Post Secondary Commission. It is a member of the National Association of Career Colleges. It is also a limited company referred to as Life Skills Training Centres (Canada) Ltd. It was founded in 1976 by Madeleine Dunkley with Vicki Jolin and Blair Dunkley. The school used to offer programs designed to help those with psychiatric disorders but soon began to offer life skills programs to help those who were unable to cope with their life and their problems. Life Skills Training Centres (Canada) Ltd. was licensed under Private Vocational Schools Act in 1976 becoming independent from the Canadian Mental Health Association. The head office is in Edmonton, Alberta. Students from all walks of life have graduated from the programs from ages 16 to 65 from all parts of the world. Students who take up the Life Skills Coach Training in Human Relations and Family Counselor Diploma program [23 weeks duration], Life Skills Coaching Certificate program [1000 hours of training], Operant Effectual Counseling (OEC)[108 hours of training], and Relationship Training [120 hours of training] are offered employment in hospitals, youth centers, colleges, correctional institutes, social services, self-help agencies, and mental health centers. The instructors are certified trainers who have completed a minimum 7 years of training before qualifying for a trainer certification. The curriculum is designed to help people and train them to help others, too.
