Profile of Career College/Trade School
The instructors at the Law Enforcement and Security Training Academy of Canada are former cops from the Winnipeg Police Service and the Royal Canada police. This gives students hands on experience on how to deal with crisis. The Security Officer Level III course is based on the training requirements of the Canadian General Standards Board. This course gives basic understanding of patrolling, handling bomb threats and emergencies, giving first aid, tactical communication training, fire safety, traffic control and self-defense techniques. The academy has now begun an online training program that enables students to complete the course in 40 hours. The on-line course enables the students to undergo the training at their own pace and convenience. This course is approved by Manitoba Advanced Education and Literacy under the Private Vocational Institutions Act and has been endorsed by Manitoba and Saskatchewan Justice Departments. The academy also has specialized courses in firearm safety and an eight-hour first aid program, which is based on Red Cross standards. The admissions to these courses are done through an entrance exam, which involves a tough screening process. Physical and mental fitness is of utmost importance for students wishing to pursue this career. Law Enforcement and Security Training Academy of Canada, located in Winnipeg, also offers onsite training programs to the security staff working in institutions and organizations.
