Jasper College is based in the province of Alberta and offers a range of ESL programs and other courses to help immigrants and new citizens of Canada learn about the culture, country and how to integrate themselves into society. A number of support services are available to all students and emergency staff is available at all times to help students deal with any issues they may have. The college restricts its class sizes to 7 students per class. Students are encouraged to volunteer at local hospitals and senior citizen homes to practice their spoken English skills. Computer and internet services are available to all students and supervisors who are fluent in Japanese and Mandarin are on hand to assist students. For students looking to join the ESL program, an initial placement test is held to determine the level of their language skills. Classes are held at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels and the students are encouraged to practice speaking English in the class. Jasper College also offers a job support program to help students improve their spoken English and find suitable employment. A caregiver program is available to train students to become live-in caregivers to the elderly and the disabled as well. The college also offers a childcare program which trains students with the skills necessary to work in the Canadian day care system. A special program for high school students takes students to small towns nearby where they can experience Canadian nature and interact with students of their own age.
