Profile of Career College/Trade School
A training facility accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency, BC College of Optics, Vancouver focuses on personalized instruction to its students with an emphasis on applying the knowledge they gain into practice. They are approved by the regulatory College of Opticians of BC. The college provides all the necessary learning competencies required for an aspiring Dispensing Optician and a Contact Lens Fitter. The instructors who train the students have several years of experience in this field. BC College of Optics is also a member of the National Federation of Opticianry Schools, an organization of North American opticianry schools that encourages the growth of formal opticianry education. BC College offers full-time and part time day and evening classes. This college does not offer online training. A single course of instruction that includes Ophthalmic Dispensing & Contact Lens Fitting is offered along with the basics of optical lab. Students are given hands-on training with whatever they learn. Small class sizes help them get personal attention throughout the course. At the BC College, the Certificate program only teaches opticianry subjects unlike others programs where Humanities or Liberal Arts credits are mandatory. However, BC College graduates must also pass the COBC licensing exams before they find jobs. Students are assisted with job placement when they complete their course.
